De diagnose Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) betreft een lichte cognitieve achteruitgang die erger is dan men op basis van leeftijd mag verwachten, maar die niet aan de diagnose dementie voldoet.

Jaarlijks ontwikkelt 5-15% van de patiënten met MCI dementie.

Er zijn geen therapeutische opties voor MCI. Wel kan men eventuele somatische factoren behandelen.
