Vrouwen met borstkanker hebben in het jaar volgend op de diagnose vaker contact met de huisartsenpraktijk dan vrouwen zonder borstkanker, en ze krijgen ook vaker medicijnen voorgeschreven.

Redenen om de huisarts te hulp te roepen zijn klachten door de ziekte en bijwerkingen van de behandeling. Het gaat veelal om maagdarmproblemen, huidproblemen, psychische problemen, pijn en slaapproblemen.
