Bij ouderen lijkt niet veel vaker sprake van een ernstige onderliggende aandoening dan bij andere leeftijdsgroepen.

Alarmsymptomen zijn slechte voorspellers voor de diagnose ‘wervelfractuur’.

Pijnstillers worden veel gebruikt voor rugklachten, ondanks hun beperkte effectiviteit en de kans op bijwerkingen.
